While Transport Canada is never short of imagination when it comes to inventing operational restrictions, no clear regulations were issued concerning the use of cannabis in the air transport industry. The Canadian Aviation Regulations are very clear as to the use of alcohol, so why not develop clear regulations concerning the use of cannabis? To simply say that it is illegal is to avoid the real question. The government created this situation and is avoiding its responsibility. Obviously, it is easier to let carriers handle this hot issue and defend their policies before the courts.

A 92-page lawsuit, according to reports by Reuters and The Canadian Press, alleges that former Bombardier employees passed on trade secrets to help Mitsubishi Aircraft’s delayed MRJ regional jet project obtain certification from regulators. Mitsubishi has since denied allegations in the lawsuit.
