As a leader in fighting climate change in the North, the Arctic Energy Alliance (AEA) works with communities and businesses to encourage the adoption of biomass to help realize a clean energy future. AEA’s
virtual conference educates northerners every year on biomass heating technologies and optimal utilization.
“The climate crisis is now impacting our ability to fight climate change, with wildfires, flooding and drought conditions causing major disruptions to supply chains and the very renewable energy projects intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Mark Heyck, Executive Director of the Arctic Energy Alliance. “It’s more important than ever that we consider climate change adaptation within our mitigation strategies to ensure energy self-sufficiency for northerners. And we know proven technologies like clean, renewable and locally available biomass will help us get there.”
As in past years, the Northwest Territories Biomass Week will be held in partnership with the Wood Pellet Association of Canada (WPAC) and with media partner Canadian Biomass Magazine. The event will cover important issues that affect homeowners, developers, industrial operators, policymakers and producers.
Each day of Biomass Week, January 27-31, 2025, a lineup of experts and thought leaders will share their perspectives from 8:45 am to 11:30 am MST on key topics, including:
- Day 1 Monday, January 27: The Advantages of Biomass in Canada’s North
- Day 2 Tuesday, January 28: Case Studies: Existing and New Residential, Commercial and Industrial Applications
- Day 3 Wednesday, January 29: District Heating: One System to Heat Them All
- Day 4 Thursday, January 30: Biomass Supporting Forest Health
- Day 5 Friday, January 31: Combined Heat & Power (CHP) and Biomass Innovation
