As the world moves toward a low-carbon future, biomass and wood pellets play a key role in ensuring Canada has renewable and responsible energy. Join us for
Biomass for a Low-Carbon Future to explore the numerous opportunities biomass presents.
Keynote: Local Energy—The Foundation for Economic Success and Export Growth
Use of local forest biomass resources for heat and power generation ensures energy expenditures stay within a region, avoids cash drain and safeguards energy security. In many cases, biomass is the lowest-cost, most reliable and sustainable energy choice, with adoption driving down rates of energy poverty.
However, biomass energy systems can also serve as the foundation for industrial competitiveness and new exports. This goes beyond the forest products sector, where the decline in Canada’s pulp and paper industry necessitates increased bioenergy generation to ensure the continued production of lumber for housing and the sustainable management of forests.
Examples from around the world provide a roadmap for fuel-switching manufacturers, producing products ranging from tires to French fries, as well as local forest biomass. This drives down costs and insulates manufacturers and building owners from the volatility of fossil fuel prices. In Atlantic Canada, biomass energy can also serve as the basis for a new export carbon dioxide removal industry that could become one of the largest drivers of economic growth.
Join Dr. Jamie Stephen of TorchLight Bioresources as he explores how local biomass energy is the essential foundation for a competitive and prosperous Maritime economy.
