So says Ian Adamson, President of Greenbelt Greenhouse Ltd in Lynden, ON.
In this video Ian explains the importance of bringing their organic greens from the 1800 tables of produce in the greenhouse through the process and packaging line and to market 3 to 4 days faster than California-grown product makes it to local retails shelves. The entire line was integrated by Abbey Equipment Ltd.
“Consumers like the high nutritional value, better texture & flavour and longer shelf life of our branded Greenbelt Organic Greens products.”
Watch in the video as Erik Van Coppenole, Technical Sales at Abbey Equipment Solutions, takes us through the entire operating production line that produces up to 40 clam shells of organic greens per minute or 2,400 per hour.
We start with Turatti conveyors bringing product from sorting to chilling to sanitation stations. We then see the lettuce being delicately transferred up an inclined Liftvrac system to the awaiting Multipond scales on rollers and equipped with a patented Multipond Argus camera system that allows the line operator below to check on the even dispensing of greens in the weigh scales above … totally eliminating the need for an operator above on the mezzanine level to clear product.
A tamping system ensures proper packaging in the clamshells which are then conveyed to a packaging room where they are labeled and then metal detected and checkweighed by a highly effective Anritsu combo system.
From there the clamshells move to a robust and compact Consolidated Technologies case packer equipped with a Fanuc robotic arm for opening, loading and sealing the blank corrugated sheets into shipping cases.
“The technical expertise from the Abbey Equipment team has been incredible,” exclaims Ian Adamson.
