Gerhard Metzger, Founder of Metzger’s Meats, shares the secret to his company’s success: “The key to our company is the synergy of traditional methods with modern technology and automation.”
To bring this vision to life, Metzger’s partnered with Weber to optimize the processing and packaging of their premium deli meats—especially their celebrated bacon products.
At the heart of their production line is an integrated solution featuring the 702 Slicer, wePICK pick robot, and wePACK 7000 thermoformer. Metzger highlights the benefits of this unified approach:
“Having both processing and packaging equipment from the same source has been a major advantage, ensuring compatibility, streamlining support, and making the system easier to manage.”
In the video, watch as Jakub Wosolowski, Weber’s Canadian Service Manager, demonstrates the system slicing bacon at speeds of up to 2,000 cuts per minute. A camera vision system with three lasers on the blade head precisely outlines each slice on the HMI screen, enhancing weight accuracy for every portion.
Next, the video showcases the vision-controlled pick robot, seamlessly linking the slicer to the thermoformer. It ensures optimal orientation and placement of bacon slices into the wePACK 7000’s thermoform pockets.
The servo-powered thermoformer uses less energy while offering full control of the packaging cycle, enhancing process reliability. Operators can manage the entire line from any of the three HMI stations.
Watch the video to see why Metzger affirms: “The impact on our production has been substantial.”
