Nick Ganong, COO of Ganong Brothers, demonstrates how Canada’s oldest privately held confectionery company forms, fills and seals 22-gram pouches of Sunkist brand fruit snacks at speeds of 150 packs per minute.

“We did an extensive search for suppliers … and we chose PLAN IT Packaging.” Ganong took delivery of four MARs RAPID continuous motion V/F/F/S baggers, supported on the mezzanine level by four ELITEWEIGH 24-head multihead weighers, with inclined product-feeding conveyance.

“The entire system was installed and running in less than three months after issuing the purchase order,” maintains Nick. “We traveled to their facility in Mississauga, Ont., where our operators ran our product at 150 packs per minute whilst learning how to operate the HMI and maintain the machinery.

“Features like continuous-motion jaws help pull down the films to keep up with the higher throughput.”

And best of all is the service. Nick relates, “During the Air Canada strike, Atik Khan, Quality Control and Service Manager at PLAN IT, drove 1,500 miles from Mississauga to our plant to help with initial setup!”

“I can’t tell you how much easier it is to have all of the bagging equipment form one source.”
