We know dealing with a blocked sewer or flooded basement can be a major pain that customers want dealt with quickly - so they head out to rent equipment to fix the problem. But it's important they remember to always "Call Before You Clear".
Underground natural gas pipelines unintentionally installed through sewer or septic pipes are called cross bores. Left undisturbed, they aren't an immediate safety risk. However, cross bores can result in a dangerous natural gas leak if motorized or water-jetting equipment is used to unclog sewer or septic pipes and damages the natural gas line.
It's very important to have sewer lines that run outside the walls of a home inspected before anyone attempts to clear them to avoid an immediate risk to public safety, including a gas leak, fire or explosion.
Please remind customers attempting to clear a blocked sewer line to Call Before You Clear – Ontario One Call at 1-800-400-2255 for a free natural gas sewer safety inspection. These inspections are treated as emergency calls. If a cross bore is found on the property, the sewer line will be fixed at no cost to the customer. Safety is the number one goal.
