With over three decades of experience in fire and emergency management, Brian currently serves as the Superintendent of Provincial Operations/Fire Services for BC Wildfire Service. His career spans 24 years in municipal fire services—16 years with Vancouver Fire Rescue Services and eight years with the District of North Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, where he led as Fire Chief for six years, driving operational excellence, strategic initiatives, and community safety.
Brian began his fire service career in 1990 as a wildland firefighter on initial attack rappel crews in the Canadian Rocky Mountain National Parks. His return to wildfire operations in 2024 represents a full-circle moment, blending his leadership expertise with hands-on frontline experience.
A dedicated lifelong learner, Brian holds a master’s degree from Royal Roads University, a bachelor’s degree from the Justice Institute of BC, and is a graduate of the BCIT Fire Executive Management Certificate program and the Certificate in Advanced Strategy from the UBC Sauder School of Business.
Brian’s professional credentials include Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®), Chief Fire Officer (CFO), and Executive Chief Fire Officer (ECFO). He continues to elevate the field by serving as a peer reviewer for each of these prestigious designations.
In addition to his leadership responsibilities, Brian contributes to the development of future leaders as an adjunct instructor at Dalhousie University and the Justice Institute of BC, sharing his expertise in fire and emergency management.
