New mutual aid agreement for Cowichan Valley

Fire departments across the Cowichan Valley region of British Columbia have entered into a mutual aid agreement that ensures all Cowichan communities have back-up emergency response assistance. The Cowichan Valley Fire Department Regional Mutual Aid Agreement creates a no-charge reciprocal system of emergency response and assistance available to all 17 local fire departments throughout the region and represents the first time a single regional agreement has been established.


Calgary fire department going virtual with fire education

Calgary’s virtual reality fire pilot will be the first of its kind in Canada. The Virtual Reality Fire and Life Safety Education Pilot will be a life-like opportunity for citizens and communities to learn and understand how a fire situation could be managed.


Firefighter suffers fatal heart attack at scene of Sproat Lake barn fire

A Sproat Lake, B.C., volunteer firefighter has died of a heart attack after arriving to tackle a large barn fire. Lt. Ron Suits, 69, had just arrived at the fire Thursday and begun to nurse water to the fire engine that crews were using to douse the flames when he suffered a heart attack, said Sproat Lake Fire Chief Mike Cann.
