Avoid or limit time in high-risk settings, Public Health advises

Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, updates the latest case numbers and cautions Canadians to avoid or strictly limit the time they spend in high-risk settings and situations this summer.


B.C. government failing to register ground water users, say critics

Only 20 per cent of people in British Columbia who use wells to get their water have registered under the province’s mandatory ground water law, in force since early 2016. Some critics say the government needs to do more to understand and control water use. The Province reports.


Canadian housing starts increased in June

The trend in housing starts was 199,655 units in June 2020, up from 197,063 units in May 2020, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Rural starts, also up, were estimated at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 15,006 units, up from 7,772 units excluding Quebec in May.


Media coverage could discourage public from guiding ground water use, California study finds

Superficial media coverage of California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act may be discouraging public democratic engagement on resource-management issues by having focused on relatively few stakeholders, a new study from University of California Merced shows.


Canada and B.C. invest in water infrastructure in Lower Mainland

The federal and B.C. governments will fund 21 projects, including drinking water and wastewater facilities, in the Lower Mainland under the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan.
