In many packaging machines, cardboard is used as a physical barrier to protect operators from hazardous areas. This design often allows for reloading without stopping the machine. However, a common safety challenge arises when the cardboard magazine becomes empty leaving an open access point where an operator could reach into the machine and risk injury.
Pilz offers a TÜV-certified safety solution that addresses this risk, compliant with:
PL d / Cat. 3 of EN ISO 13849-1
SIL CL 2 of EN IEC 62061
This flexible system safely monitors the presence of packaging material using two optical sensors on the cardboard magazine. If the sensors detect insufficient cardboard, they signal the myPNOZ modular safety relay, which stops the machine until the material is replenished—ensuring operator safety and minimizing downtime.
The myPNOZ modular safety relay system has been enhanced with new modules to further extend your machine safety capabilities - without any additional programming required:
8-input module - for more complex safety architectures
Bypass module - for temporary overrides with safety in mind
NO+NC sensor module - compatible with Pilz single-beam light curtains
Output module with timer - for time-based safety functions
Safety gate interlock module - with locking/unlocking functionality
