A Message From Manure Manager

Manure Manager recently concluded its 2023 Safety Week – but safety is a year-round commitment.

The content shared throughout this week will live forever on our website under our Safety Week page. Our content includes links to checklists, deep dives on safety, podcasts and videos that demonstrate the importance of safety and vigilance in farming and manure application.

Always remember these key safety takeaways when working:
  • Complete regular inspections on equipment, and keep records;
  • Ensure your personal protective equipment is adequate and up-to-date;
  • Double- and triple-check your surroundings and potential hazards every time;
  • Use buddy systems, especially when a task involves dangerous gases;
  • Ensure you are rested and alert.
Keep a lookout for our September/October print issue in the coming days and weeks, in which we dive even deeper into safety content with features on biosecurity, fire prevention, safety advocacy work and more.

We also have a two-page spread featuring content from our 2023 North American Manure Expo, with a special focus on the Expo’s brand-new Safety & Operations Knowledge Event.

Speaking on the importance of the event, former applicator and product specialist Isaac Lemmenes said, “I hope people gained knowledge on day-to-day operation and safety. My biggest thing I stress is to never push an operator past his limits and promote operators to slow down and think things through.”
