One remote gold mine — accessible only by plane or ice road in winter — needed a way to decrease the number of ill and injured workers being referred for offsite care. Medcor Canada, which offers a range of occupational health and wellness services, stepped in to run the mine's onsite clinic in 2021.
The clinic features one full-time medical professional available 24/7 to the workers who live and work at the mine, as well as one full-time wellness advocate.
Approximately 91% of workers requiring medical care were treated fully at the onsite clinic, saving the company a significant amount of money and time required to transport workers offsite. Additionally, workers can participate in smoking cessation programs, blood pressure screenings and other offerings to keep them their healthiest and most productive.
The unique challenges of the mine’s remote location and its around-the-clock operations meant the Medcor team had to step up and find a creative solution to their needs.
