Chronic physical conditions are on the rise in Canada, posing new challenges for workplaces and contributing to the health and wellbeing of employees at companies across the country. Today, almost half (45.1 per cent) of Canadians live with at least one major chronic disease, according to Statistics Canada’s Health of Canadians report from 2023.
For employers, these health trends are more than personal matters. They have direct impacts on absenteeism, healthcare costs and overall team dynamics.
Recognizing the significance of this worrying trend, Sun Life conducted an analysis of drug claim data over a five-year period to better understand how healthy Canadian employees are, and to identify opportunities for employers to support and encourage the health and wellbeing of their employees.
