Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSIs), also called Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs), continue to plague Ontario’s workers, causing pain, suffering and often life-altering injuries. According to Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), MSDs account for 30 per cent of allowed lost time injury claims. WSIB statistics also reveal other concerning trends — an increase in MSDs among younger workers (aged 25-34) and a steady rise in MSDs to multiple body parts.
Employers also bear the burden, facing higher costs from compensation and lost productivity. Although, many injuries remain unreported, and claims are frequently denied.
Driving these injuries are workplace hazards created by poorly designed work and excess work demands. Often the solutions are simple ones.
To support RSI Awareness Day and workplaces seeking MSD prevention solutions Workers Health & Safety Centre, Ontario’s official OHS training centre is offering an unprecedented number of in-person and virtual ergonomic- and MSD-focused training courses at discounted rates of $40 per course (normally priced at $75-$120/course) until February 28.
