The Public Services Health and Safety Association (PSHSA) has launched a new course designed to build de-escalation prevention and awareness skills to reduce the risk of escalated behaviours in everyday interactions with clients, customers, and the public.
Escalated Behaviours: Prevention Through Awareness eLearning
Within three interactive microlearning modules and an estimated completion time of just 45 minutes, you’ll learn about:
- How stress and trauma can change how a person thinks, feels, and reacts
- Early warning signs of escalated behaviour
- A person-centered approach that incorporates empathy, sympathy, and effective, calm communication strategies
- Proactive de-escalation techniques such as active listening and non-threatening body language
- The influence of stigma, bias, and communication barriers in shaping responses
