Wyma, in partnership with Volm Companies, successfully commissioned a high-capacity potato wash line for Heartland Fresh Pak in Manitoba in November 2025.

Designed to handle 50–60 tonnes per hour of potatoes, the system was installed within a tightly constrained existing site, requiring integration with the customer’s established flume pit and downstream optical graders. To achieve this, the wash line was engineered across multiple layers of equipment to fit within site constraints while maintaining efficient product flow. Despite the spatial and integration challenges, the project delivered a complete, efficient wash-line solution encompassing debris removal, flume destoning, washing, polishing, drying, treatment, and extensive conveying.

The line was engineered to maintain gentle product handling while managing high throughputs and varying dirt loads. The water system supports wash performance by recycling process water from the polishers through filtration and returning it to the destoner, with clarified water reused for polisher spray bars and fresh water added as required based on dirt levels. Flexible operation was built into the design, allowing the system to adapt to maintenance requirements and reduced-capacity operation without compromising performance. Seamless integration with third-party optical graders ensured consistent product flow and grading accuracy downstream.

The result is a robust, scalable wash-line solution that meets Heartland’s operational demands while delivering reliable performance, efficient water use, and consistent product quality—See Heartland's success story.
