"...like a thousand paper cuts."
Microaggressions are often compared to paper cuts; one on its own may seem insignificant,
but accumulating them can be painful and degrading.
On the surface, microaggressions may appear as compliments or jokes. However, they contain hidden insults, offensive statements, insensitive questions, or assumptions. While they may not always be intentional, they do cause harm to recipients and bystanders.
In this live presentation, guest speaker and author Anthony McLean challenges participants to think critically about unconscious bias, microaggressions, and mental wellness.
Learning outcomes:
- Identify common microaggressions in the workplace and techniques for addressing them.
- Gain a deeper understanding of how ongoing 'subtle acts of exclusion' can impact mental health and performance.
- Learn why self-awareness is critical for successful wellness and inclusion initiatives.
