In Western Canada, the long-standing belief is that no-till makes the healthiest soil, as measured by soil organic carbon and the health of soil microbes. A long-term soil health study by the University of Guelph in Ontario showed that a diversified crop rotation is most important, even with conventional tillage. But there is no comparative study for conditions on the Prairies.
