The canola flower midge is a recent discovery – prior to being identified by Boyd Mori, assistant professor at the University of Alberta, in 2016, damage caused by the canola flower midge was attributed to the swede midge. Mori and AAFC’s Megan Vankosky recently completed a research project on distribution of the midge across the Prairies and if it has any natural enemies.

Sclerotinia stem rot is a highly unpredictable and weather-dependent disease. A collaborative research project led by Weather INnovations Consulting (WIN) was initiated to develop reliable Sclerotinia stem rot risk and canola growth stage forecasting models. Once developed, these models will provide canola growers with decision support to apply or forgo fungicide application.
